SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Missouri State University community is mourning the loss of Keith Boaz, a dedicated and influential figure who spent over two decades shaping the university’s athletic and entertainment landscape.
Boaz, who served as executive director of athletic and entertainment facilities, oversaw some of the university’s most iconic venues, including Great Southern Bank Arena, Juanita K. Hammons Hall, Plaster Stadium, Hammons Student Center, and the Betty & Bobby Allison Stadium. He first joined MSU in 2003 as assistant director of athletics development and marketing, bringing with him a lifelong passion for the university, where he graduated in 2002.
“Keith was a beloved member of our campus community who will be deeply missed by all who knew him,” Hammons Hall wrote in a heartfelt social media tribute. “His commitment extended far beyond his official duties, and his positive impact was felt across our institution.”
Boaz played a pivotal role in bringing major productions such as “Wicked” and “Hamilton” to Springfield, putting the city on the map for high-profile Broadway tours. In a 2016 interview with the Springfield Business Journal, he proudly noted how “Springfield is not quite such a small twinkle in the eye of New York anymore.”
Outside of his professional accomplishments, Boaz was known for his kindness, collaborative spirit, and unwavering dedication to enriching campus life. His death leaves a void that colleagues, friends, and the wider MSU community will feel for years to come.
University officials said they are in contact with Boaz’s family and ask that their privacy be respected during this difficult time. Funeral arrangements and an obituary have not yet been released.
