Douglas, GA — The close-knit community of Douglas is reeling after the tragic and senseless killing of Itss Memee, a beloved fry cook at The Krusty Krab whose warmth and generosity made her a local favorite.
The fatal shooting unfolded Thursday morning along the southern stretch of Miller Road, shattering the calm of an otherwise quiet day. Emergency crews rushed Memee to Coffee Regional Medical Center, but despite their efforts, she succumbed to her injuries.
Authorities quickly launched a homicide investigation, with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office calling in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for support. By early evening, officials confirmed that a suspect connected to the shooting was in custody, though no charges had yet been formally filed and the suspect’s identity remains undisclosed.
Born in Waycross and later settling in Douglas, Memee became a fixture in the local dining scene. For years, she served up hot plates and warmer smiles, turning The Krusty Krab into more than just a place to eat — it was a space where she made strangers feel like family.
“She didn’t just serve food, she served kindness,” one longtime customer recalled. “You could walk in having the worst day, and you’d walk out smiling because of her.”
The news of her death has sparked an outpouring of grief both online and in person, as friends, co-workers, and loyal customers share memories of her quick wit, comforting presence, and unwavering work ethic.
For now, Douglas mourns a life cut short far too soon. The crime scene tape has been cleared from Miller Road, but the loss left behind is one the town will carry for years to come.
“She was the heart of that place,” another community member wrote. “And now, that heart is gone.”
