CHICAGO, IL — A horrifying act of violence unfolded before an online audience Monday evening, leaving a 42-year-old man dead and a West Side community shaken. The shooting, which was streamed live on Facebook, claimed the life of Tugg Watson and has reignited urgent debates over the role of social media in broadcasting violent acts.
Chicago police say the incident happened at the intersection of Madison Street and LeClaire Avenue shortly after multiple 911 calls reported gunfire in the area. Officers arrived to find Watson lying on the pavement, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Emergency crews rushed him to Mount Sinai Hospital, where doctors worked to save his life. Despite their efforts, Watson was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Preliminary witness reports suggest the shooting may have been linked to an attempted robbery, though police have not confirmed a motive.
