Tragedy Strikes: Dr. Peter Luea Remembered After Sudden Passing During Morning Run

EAST LANSING, MI — The community is in deep mourning following the tragic and unexpected passing of Dr. Peter John Luea, MD, who died on August 4, 2025, during a morning run. He was 54.

A respected physician, cherished husband, and beloved friend, Dr. Luea’s sudden death has sent waves of sorrow throughout Eaton Rapids and beyond. Known for his compassion, quiet strength, and deep commitment to his family and patients alike, Peter’s life was a testament to service and faith.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Sue, and a grieving community now coming together to honor his memory. Through a mutual friend, many are contributing to a spiritual bouquet — a collective offering of prayers, Mass intentions, and acts of kindness — to present to the Luea family as a symbol of shared grief, love, and support during this unimaginable time.

Dr. Luea was more than a doctor; he was a healer in every sense. His steady presence brought comfort to those in pain, and his faith guided every part of his life — from the way he treated his patients to the love he showed his family.

A visitation will be held Monday evening, August 11, at Mills Funeral Home, 518 S Main St, Eaton Rapids. Funeral services will follow on Tuesday, August 12, at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 955 Alton Rd, East Lansing.
